Dedicated to the alarm’s chirps keeping me company today.

I awoke before 4 to a sound

Familiar, but infrequent, from its body round

No emergency, no

But the same device with a small light it glows

He makes a sound that at 4am is welcome not

But at 9am as he chirps in thankfulness I am caught

Steady, loyal he is to me

My background noise and company

I sit with a pen and here I write

His interjections now much less of a fright

His timely sound I’ve grown to love

Faithful he is to his task from above

Much I can learn from this noise I hear

Undistracted and with purpose to adhere

Oh, how I wish to be

Steadfast and patient I learn from he

When the battery is changed and I hear him not

I’ll be glad for the unexpected companionship I got

Though quiet for a while he will be

I know he is always there with me.
