My First Fall

I mean, not really, of course. But in some ways it does feel that way. When I think of the autumn season, I think of the short, fleeting days where the summer sun is less warm and the breezes grow more cool. And then it snows once. And then fall is over.
God is sprinkling His fall confetti all over me this fall. It’s mid-November and as I drive on the highway, the leaves shower my windshield and slowly meet each other again on the concrete. I’m still waking to days where the coats can wait to be worn in the closet and my mittens grow dust bunnies. Is this what fall is like? No longer is fall the overlooked middle child. Mr. Autumn is here and inviting us to linger with him. Enjoy the timing of the leaves falling at their own perfect pace. The slow unwrapping of winter’s blanket. It’s as if the wind is inviting us into the changes about to take place. “Come with me!” it proclaims as it leads us to the trees that look painted in gold, and “Slow down,” it encourages us.
Consider this an invitation accepted.
